The best time of the year in the NFL is upon us, conference championship Sunday. The AFC championship will feature a familiar face in the Kansas City Chiefs and the up-and-coming Baltimore Ravens. The NFC championship will also feature another familiar face in the San Francisco 49ers and possibly the best story in the NFL this season in the Detroit Lions.
Baltimore Ravens vs Kansas City Chiefs (AFC Championship)
The first game will be the AFC championship on Sunday at 3 pm. The whole United States is rooting for the Baltimore Ravens. Patrick Mahomes has been to the AFC championship game for six straight years, and everyone wants some parody. Mahomes is receiving the Brady treatment; everyone wants to see him lose in the playoffs. Lamar Jackson said, “This will be a heavyweight fight” when talking to the media this week.
The Ravens will have home-field advantage, and this will be just the second time Mahomes plays on the road in his playoff career. That being said, Mahomes is 13-3 in his playoff career and he looked great last week in Buffalo. This game will be hard fought and it will come down to which defense plays better.
San Francisco 49ers vs Detroit Lions (NFC Championship)
The second game will be the NFC championship on Sunday at 6:30 pm. The Lions are America’s team and will have much support in this game. Brock Purdy is back in the NFC championship for a second straight year. The difference is he is fully healthy and will be able to impact the result this season. Jared Goff has experience in championship games, which will help.
The 49ers will have home-field advantage and will be seeking their 2nd Super Bowl appearance in 5 years. The Lions are in uncharted territory; they have never reached the Super Bowl in their franchise history. A win in this game would be historic for the Detroit Lions franchise. This game will come down to whether or not the Lions’ defense can slow down the electric 49ers offense.
