During Super Bowl 58, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made history in two different ways. In the third quarter, he nailed a kick from 57 yards, which broke Jake Moody’s record. Moody had made a 55-yarder earlier in the game, which was the Super Bowl record for all of one quarter.
Later in the game, Butker broke another Super Bowl record. This time, it was for most field goals made in a Super Bowl in a career. He nailed a kick from 29 yards out to break a tie with Adam Vinatieri and Stephen Gostkowski. That was his tenth field goal in the Super Bowl of his career. In his Super Bowl career, Butker has attempted 11 field goals and made 10 of them.
Butker has been a historically good kicker for his entire career. This past season was the best of his career. He made forty-four of his attempted forty-six field goals, 96 percent. He has hit 89 percent of all field goals throughout his career. That percentage is good enough to be second all-time behind Justin Tucker.
Patrick Mahomes has consistently praised Butker for his kicking abilities. On the Pat Mcafee show, Mahomes stated, “he doesn’t speak to Butker much throughout the season.” “I know if we get the ball past the 40-yard line, he’s gonna get it done for us.” Having that reliable option at kicker has to be comforting for a QB.
Harrison Butker has proven time and time again that he is one of the best kickers in the NFL. Where does he rank all-time?
